Globeducate welcomed IPS (International Preparatory School) to the group in October, marking a new chapter in the school´s history and expanding Globeducate´s presence in Europe.
IPS has 300 children and was founded in 1982 by Robert and Hilary Heger, the parents of current owner Lars Heger and his wife Carolyn. The school is popular with both Portuguese and non-Portuguese families with primary age children and is the leading specialist in Primary and Pre-Primary in the district of Lisbon and municipality of Cascais. It is accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and delivers the National Curriculum of England.
The school welcomes children from 40 different countries and, since 2010, has occupied modern, purpose-built facilities with impressive architecturally designed spaces for exhibitions, music concerts and schools plays. The school also has a library, music room, gymnasium, ICT suite and classrooms. The classrooms have green roofs, planted with a variety of grasses and drought-resistant plants. Nursery to Year 4 has its own space which is very homely and has a garden, a mini football pitch, pirate ship, adventure playground and “roads” for developing confidence on their tricycles.
The school complements the ethos and vision of our other Globeducate schools worldwide, and joins our other two Globeducate schools in Portugal, strengthening our position as the leading provider of international education in this country and expanding our presence in Europe.
General Manager Lars Heger says, “In today´s global society where cultures mix and blend, it has never been more important to foster an understanding of others. Strong foundations and a sense of belonging allow children to have confidence to face the future. This is the essence of IPS and why we are so excited about our next chapter, as part of the Globeducate network.
“IPS is a caring and cohesive community where students, staff and parents share the same ethos of trust and respect for all, diversity is celebrated and newcomers are welcomed and supported, whatever their language and cultural background. There is an overall atmosphere of both honesty and spontaneity, respect and trust. The pastoral system at IPS is a real strength of the school.”
CEO of Globeducate Portugal and UK, and Head of School of Nobel International School Algarve since 2016, Mike Farrer, said, “Coming into IPS, there is an immediate sense of ´home´ and ´family´, which complements our other schools in Almancil and Lagoa – where, in normal times, parents play a very active and valued role in the school community. I have been immensely impressed with the dedication of the teachers at IPS and the quality of education here. I look forward to working closely with the team there, led by Lars and also Headmaster Robert Taylor, and to introducing them to our other Globeducate schools. I am delighted that everyone at IPS is looking forward to future collaboration with colleagues in the group.”
Globeducate is growing and has +50 schools in nine countries in Europe, North America and Asia, with 25,000 students.
