Steeped in British tradition
Stonar is a British school founded in 1895. The school is situated on an 80 acre rural site near the city of Bath and is approximately an hour and a half by train from London. Stonar has a unique charm and sense of calm contentedness. There is a freedom from negative social pressures and children feel free to be themselves, developing positive self-esteem and confidence. Stonar pupils are happy, kind and enthusiastic. They work hard, achieve highly and enjoy full participation in a positively competitive environment, enabling them to achieve their full potential.
Three boarding houses are a home-from-home for the 135 full boarders and offer a friendly, safe and nurturing environment where the children’s happiness and wellbeing are paramount. While the majority of boarders are British, the school also welcomes pupils from 15 different nationalities into the lively and vibrant community, with students benefitting from the vast grounds to enjoy sport, outdoor education and the busy weekend and evening activities programme.
There is a special emphasis on equestrianism; 50% of the students ride regularly making use of the school’s own world-class onsite equestrian centre with 65 horses and ponies stabled on site.
Stonar joined Globeducate in 2012 and was the first school in the United Kingdom to become a member of Globeducate’s international network. Since that time Stonar has become one of Globeducate’s primary residential summer school destinations and forms an integral part of the group’s International Exchange Programme
